I cannot print, I am registered what happened?
If you register on the same day that you want to use the lab, your UMS number will not be in the system. You must allow at least 24hrs to pass before you will be in the system. Updates are made to the system daily and depending on the time of your registration it could take up to 48hrs. If your printing need is immediate, see a lab staff member in Healey/UL/040.

How many free prints am I allowed?
Each UMass student is given an allotted 200 free prints per semester, additional prints can be purchased at a rate of 10 cents per printed page, double-sided printing is 20 cents per page by purchasing a print card.

Why am I being asked to enter my UMS number?
When your print job(s) are sent to the release station you will be asked to enter your "ums" number in lowercase and a name for your job. Your UMS number is unique to you and is used to determine the number of prints you have available for use. NEVER GIVE YOUR UMS NUMBER TO ANYONE!!!

I couldn't have printed 200 pages, how can I determine how many pages I have printed?
Each UMS number is associated with a 200 page allotment, the number decreases each time you print, if you print a one-sided document three times, then you have used 3 pages of print leaving 197 pages available. If you print a double-sided document three times, then you have used 6 pages of print leaving 194 pages available. You should make an effort to keep track of your allotment. Access to the print database is not always readily available, if you leave your name and email address with a fulltime staff member they can research the usage of your account within 24hrs.

I am being asked to insert a card, why?
Once your allotment of free prints is depleted you will need to purchase a print card to complete the printing of your job(s). Print jobs remain in the queue for a least an hour before they are removed, and you can release your job from any printer release station once you purchase the card. This card should be signed immediately and stored in a safe place, you can add funds to this card as often as needed.

I bought a print card for $1.00; the card only reads 60 cents, where can I get a refund?
The initial charge for the print card is 40 cents; this amount is deducted immediately by the card dispenser. Staff members cannot refill the cards or give refunds. However, any problems with the vending machines should be reported to staff, they will give you the information needed to request a refund.
  • Card Dispensers - one machine located in Room 15, one in the UL lobby. Other locations, 3rd, 4th & 5th floors
Where can I get help?
Students with printing issues should be directed to the UL room 040 staff office
