Where is the service located?
  • The service is located in the Interlibrary Loan/Reserves processing office of the 4th floor of  the Healey Library. There is a large white paper sign on the door that says "Scantron Service."  The service is provided by the staff in Interlibrary Loan & Reserves
What are your hours?
  • Scanning orders may be left in the office Monday through Friday from 8am-4pm.
  • If you need to leave tests off or pick tests up outside of the service hours, please call the office at 617-287-5912 or email us at library.ill@umb.edu  to make arrangements.
  • We are currently working on arrangements for after hours drop off of tests.
What paperwork is required for scanning jobs?
  • All scanning jobs should  have a cover sheet appropriate for the answer sheets used.  The sheet provides faculty name, course number, date, contact person if other than the faculty member, and contact information.  Cover sheets may be copied from the PDFs below. They will also be available in the Interlibrary Loan office where you leave  your answer sheets (which is located across from the department photocopier).

  How do I provide you with the correct answers?  
  • Mark the correct answers on a bubble sheet identical to those the students used and write "Key" at the top. 
  • Place the answer key sheet on the top of the group of answer sheets it goes with.
  • Please make sure all students correctly fill in the bubbles for their UMass ID numbers or the scanner will not pick up their results.
Do I need to organize the answer sheets before bringing them to you?

Yes. 

Please make sure all answer sheets are oriented in the same direction, smoothed, unfolded,and straightened.  Many answer sheets come with one corner cut off to make it easier to orient all the sheets in the same direction

  • If you have separate versions of the test (A, B, C, etc.), place all A's in one stack, all B's in another, etc. 
  • Place the answer key sheet(s) on top of the group of answer sheets they belong with.
What is the turnaround time for scanned results to be emailed to me?
  • The Library staff will maintain the former IT turn around time of 2 business days for emailing results.-often it will be sooner than that. We will scan tests in the order in which they are received in the office.
What reports will I get?

It all depends on which answer sheets you use.

  • If you are interested in any of the following reports: Individual test results,  Individual Item Response, Item Analsyis, Relative Frequency Distribution, Absolute Frequency Distribution, and Test Score Distribution, please use the Exam System II pink answer sheets (General Purpose Answer sheet form No. 229633) that look like this: PDF
  • If you are interested only in the total correct for each student and in having that total printed at the bottom of the answer sheet:
    • If you have 5 possible answers use the (General Pupose Answer Sheet form No 4521) blue answer sheets that look like this: PDF
    • If you have 10 possible answers use the (General Purpose Answer Sheet  Form No. 6703), green answer sheets that look like this: PDF
Rules for picking up completed scan jobs 
  • Answer sheets may be picked up in the Interlibrary Loan/Reserves processing office where you dropped them off on the 4th floor of the Healey Library.
  • You may pick up answer sheets during the office hours of operation:    
    •  Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.
  •  Call 7-5912 or email library.ill@umb.edu if you need to make arrangements outside of office hours. 
  • Answer sheets will be returned only to the faculty member listed on the cover form or to the contact person listed on the cover form. If you intend to send someone to pick up the answer sheets who is not the contact on the request form, please phone the office at 7-5912 to let us know and also email us with that information to library.ill@umb.edu
  • Whoever arrives to  pick up the scanned answer sheets must bring a UMB ID. The office is staffed by several staff members who may or may not recognize you.  To make sure exams are provided to the right individual they will ask to see an ID.
How does my department order more answer sheets?

The department should contact the Scantron company at 1-800-367-6627 or at www.scantronstore.com and order by the form number that you wish to use.  See form numbers provided in the explanation of reports: answer sheets.
