Biography

Elsa Dorfman is a portrait photographer who works in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is now known for her use of a Polaroid 20 by 24 inch camera (one of only 5 in existence), from which she creates large prints. In 1974 she wrote Elsa's Housebook: A Woman's Photojournal (Boston: David R. Godine Publisher).

Scope and Content

This collection consists of 22 black and white matted photographic portraits taken by Elsa Dorfman. The portraits, many of which are signed by Dorfman, are of well-known writers and others. A copyright date that is later than the date when the photo was taken appears on the back of some of the photos. Most of theimages are approximately 9 by 11 inches.
