History

The Temporary Home for the Destitute was founded in 1847 in Boston's South End to offer temporary shelter to children in need. The children were returned to their families or friends, transferred to another institution, placed for adoption, or bound out for work. The Home was renamed the Gwynne Temporary Home for Children in 1888. It merged with the Boston Children's Aid Society in 1915.

Scope and Content

The records include the complete client registers, annual reports, minutes, and a small amount of correspondence.
