History

The Fenway Project Area Committee (FenPAC) was established by the Boston City Council in 1972 through the Boston Redevelopment Authority to satisfy federal funding requirements for citizen participation in designated "urban renewal areas." FenPAC, a 15 member, community-elected body, first participated in planning decisions related to development in the Symphony Hall/Christian Science Church section of the Fenway. Until its end in 1983, it collected information on the activities of the BRA, surveyed residents, worked with government agencies and community organizations, and served as a forum for community involvement. Its goals were to safeguard the Fenway as a place for low- and moderate-income residents, and to improve the physical environment and employment opportunities.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of the administrative files and reports of FenPAC, including minutes, correspondence and subject files on neighborhood issues and property.
