History

The Boston Children's Friend Society, founded in 1833, ran an orphanage and boarding home for destitute and dependent boys and girls. In 1901 the homes were closed and the society became strictly a placing-out agency. In 1949 they began to work exclusively as an adoption agency handling difficult placements. In 1960 the society merged with the Children's Aid Association to form the Boston Children's Service Association.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of corporate, administrative and client records, and includes annual reports, minutes, journals, registers, correspondence and scrapbooks.
