The collection was donated to the Archives by the Boston Children's Service Association.

History

The Boston Children's Aid Society was founded in 1863 to provide temporary reformative care for chi ldren and to bind them out to appropriate families. It later provided homes for destitute children as well. By 1900 it had closed its three homes and began to provide foster and medical care for needy children. In 1923 it merged with the Boston Society for the Care of Girls to form the Children's Aid Association, later to become the Boston Children's Service Association.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of corporate, administrative and client records of the society. Included are annual reports, minutes, visitors' books, registers, face sheets and scrapbooks.
