Printing FAQ
What is the proper User ID to use for printing?
Starting with the Spring semester 2009, students should use their UMB e-mail username and password, not the UMS#, to authenticate themselves for printing and computer reservations.
I cannot print, but I know I'm registered. What happened?
Once you have received notification about your UMB e-mail address, you will be in the system and ready to print. If you need help getting your username and password to work, ask at the IT Service Desk (Help Desk), Healey 3rd floor.
How many free prints am I allowed?
Each UMass student is given an allotted 200 free prints per semester. Additional prints can be by purchasing a print card, at a rate of 10 cents per printed side. Printing double-sided pages costs 20 cents per page.
I couldn't have printed 200 pages, how can I determine how many pages I have printed?
Each UMB E-mail username is associated with an allotment of 200 pages. The number decreases each time you print. If you print a one-sided document three times, then you have used 3 pages of print leaving 197 pages available. If you print a double-sided document three times, then you have used 6 pages of print leaving 194 pages available. Balance of pages remaining in each student allotment account can be read at the print release station, at bottom of the screen, labeled “Balance Total”.
I am being asked to insert a card, why?
Once your allotment of free prints is depleted, you will need to purchase a print card to complete the printing of your job(s). Print jobs remain in the queue for a least an hour before they are removed, and you can release your job from any printer release station once you purchase the card. You should write down the 7-digit serial number of the card. This can recover the value of the card account, in case the card is lost. You can add funds to this card as often as needed.
I bought a print card for $1.00; the card only reads 60 cents, where can I get a refund?
The initial charge for the plastic print card itself is 40 cents; this amount is deducted immediately by the card dispenser. Library staff members cannot refill the card dispensers or give refunds. However, any malfunction of these vending machines should be reported to staff. They will give you the information needed to request correction of your account. Card dispenser locations in the Healey building: UL, Red lab; 4th floor, Library.
Where can I get help?
Students with printing issues should be directed to the Computing Lab Supervisors, UL room 040.
