Center for Library Instruction

The CLI, located in room 015 on the 4th floor of Healey Library, is used primarily by Healey’s reference-instruction librarians to conduct library and research related instructional sessions customized to subject content of any UMB course.  Sessions make extensive use of interactive/hands-on teaching and learning methods, multimedia, and electronic source materials.

Instructors: To schedule a library session for your class, contact the Coordinator of Library Instruction (janet.dipaolo@umb.edu / 617.287.5939) or submit an online request form.

Instructors may request use of the CLI to teach library research related skills to their class without the help of a librarian by contacting the Coordinator of Library Instruction (janet.dipaolo@umb.edu / 617.287.5939) at least TWO WEEKS in advance.  Requests are dependent on CLI availability.

CLI Use Policy:

In order of priority, CLI uses are:

1. Library Instruction (faculty initiated, librarian-led, information skills and concepts sessions that are course/subject-specific);
2. Librarian-led open, drop-in library and research assistance clinics;
3. Librarian-led, personal bibliographic and information management tools instruction (RefWorks);
4. Library staff meetings that require the use of computers and projection technology;
5. Library-initiated, commercial vendor demonstrations of research databases and other electronic resources;
6. Library-initiated special events;
7. During certain specified times of the year, new student orientation sessions will be allowed to use the CLI for online registration purposes.

Other Uses:

On rare occasion and dependent on availability, the CLI may be considered for non-library events.  

• Semester-long classes will not be scheduled in the CLI.
  
• The CLI is not to be used in the capacity of a General Use Computing Lab.
