Description



The Digital Library Services Librarian is a dynamic, creative and innovative professional member of the digital library services unit of Healey Library. The incumbent promotes: campus and off-camps community-building, effective around-the-clock online reference, outstanding outreach and instruction to campus constituents. The DLSL is responsible for enriching Healey Library’s online resources by pursuing additional online resources in which the library will be the principal developer of contents and organizer of licensed resources as well as other resources available via the network. Projects included in digital services for the new millennium library are: electronic collections in Archives, resources developed by affiliated units such as the Massachusetts Studies Project, new online guides and other publications developed by the Reference, Outreach, and Instruction unit in Healey Library.

In consultation with the University Librarian and the Associate University Librarians, in particular the Associate University Librarian for Digital Library Services, the DLSL is responsible doe working to develop online publications for Healey Library. The DLSL is also responsible for providing training to all library staff in accordance to set goals and objectives related to digital library services and to facilitate service delivery based on constituent’s needs. S/he will be the primary liaison to web-hosted library service vendors such as our ILS provider and our hosts for e-reserve, wikis, web sites, etc. The Digital Library Services Librarian will serve as project manager when Healey Library engages new web-hosted applications, and will oversee routine maintenance tasks in conjunction with our web-hosted applications; specifically patron uploads, circulation reports, etc. the DLSL will work with vendors to assure that our web-hosted applications enjoy accurate data input and updates; in particular our catalog records and our serials subscriptions. The incumbent will collaborate with collegues in the library and across campus to develop new problem-solving approaches to engage the Healey Library community of more than 15,000 users in the full range of library resources and services. S/he explores, pilots, and delivers library services that are increasingly digital and delivered through online and social networks.

The DLSL will develop new ways to reach out to students and faculty through tutorials, workshops, multi-media channels, social networks and other services. The incumbent also provides information literacy instruction for students and faculty via the participation of other professional staff in the ROI unit of Healey Library. She or he will plan learning modules and instruction sessions that offer active learning experiences to students and other community members on campus. Additionally, s/he will explore new ways of engaging library users, and will provide leadership and vision for these transformative technologies and processes. The incumbent will create communication venues and distribute content using digital tools such as blogs and wikis, podcasts, multimedia webcasts, IM and other communication mechanisms, as well as current content distribution tools such as RSS. In addition, as a team member the incumbent provides expertise in the development of digital services, collections, and contents which complement and improve information delivery in support of learning and research. The library sees itself developing from an intellectual resources procurement and distribution unit to an active collector and distributor of resources which are developed and organized within the library in support of the campus areas of expertise and research. The incumbent will have a track record of demonstrated commitment to customer service; demonstrated understanding of the transformative possibilities of Web 2.0 tools; demonstrated collaborative skills; ability to think critically in analyzing problems and developing resourceful solutions; ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks and complete work on time with minimum supervision; strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work well as part of a team.

Qualifications



Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program. Capacity for working enthusiastically, flexibly, and creatively in a student-centered environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of the research process and with evolving models of scholarly communication. Excellent interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Competency with wide range of Web 2.0 applications as well as Microsoft applications.

Salary and Application Information



Hiring Range: $42,155-$48,090 Faculty. State Funded. Benefited.

The Reference Librarian is a creative and innovative librarian guiding our unique and diverse campus community with information resources needed for academic success. The Librarian will collaborate with colleagues in the library and across campus to develop approaches to instruct and engage the more than 15,000 users in the full range of library resources and services, on and off campus.
