Biography
Ann Hershfang is a long-time resident of Boston’s South End. She has been involved in community activism in her neighborhood since the later 1960s, primarily with issues relating to highways and transit. She was part of the fight to stop the construction of the Southwest Corridor project. She has also served as State Undersecretary of Transportation and was on the board of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, and was the founder of the advocacy group "WalkBoston."
Scope and Content
The records are organized into five series reflecting Hershfang's activism and advocacy regarding the South End Bypass (1969-1974), South End Transportation Issues 1971-1985), Southwest Corridor (1975-1991) and Southwest Corridor (Eleanor Strong files), and Walk Boston.
