Approximately 5100 titles
A large portion of the collection is expensive or out of print books
on fine arts. The remainder range from a late Aldine edition to video art
and is composed mostly of first editions, rare, and finely printed books.
Of special note is a collection of the work of German author Jakob
Wasserman, the Anais Nin collection of 20th century poetry, and the
Amado Alonso collection of Spanish language literature. In the graphic
arts the collection contains over 100 contemporary prints by regionally
and nationally known printmakers, and two collections of photographic
portraits, one by Lotte Jacobi and the other by Elsa Dorfman. There is also
a set of early 20th century readers collected by Boston State College
Professor Miriam Kallen. All items are individually cataloged in the
library s on-line system.

Approximately 4,500 titles
The collection consists of sheet music for more than 4,000
American popular songs. Much of the collection is from the era of Tin Pan
Alley. It contains many songs of popular composers and lyricists of the
period, including Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Harry von Tilzer, and others.

UMass/Boston's Healey Library.
COPYRIGHT
The University of Massachusetts at Boston does not own copyright of
these photographs. The university cannot make copies or lend these
images to exhibits off-campus. To do so, individuals must obtain
permission from Elsa Dorfman who owns copyright and must be credited in
any exhibit including her work.
BIOGRAPHY
Elsa Dorfman is a portrait photographer who works in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. She is now known for her use of a Polaroid 20 by 24 inch
camera (one of only 5 in existence), from which she creates large prints.
In 1974 she wrote Elsa's Housebook: A Woman's Photojournal (Boston:
David R. Godine Publisher).
SCOPE AND CONTENT
This collection consists of 22 black and white matted photographic
portraits taken by Elsa Dorfman. The portraits, many of which are signed
by Dorfman, are of well-known writers and others. A copyright date that
is later than the date when the photo was taken appears on the back of
some of the photos. Most of theimages are approximately 9 by 11 inches.

Lydia Fish donated this collection in 1992.
HISTORY
Lydia M. Fish is the director of the Vietnam Veterans Oral History and
Folklore Project of the Department of Anthropology at Buffalo State
College in New York. The purpose of the project is to "collect, preserve,
and make more widely known the folksongs of the Vietnam War." In 1991,
the project published a CD entitled "Folk Songs of Americans in the
Vietnam War, a recording of 27 "songs made by the men who served in the
Vietnam War."
SCOPE AND CONTENT
This collection consists of a reprint of an article and a booklet by
Lydia M. Fish about songs sung and written by American soldiers and
collected by General Edward G. Lansdale and others during the Vietnam
War, the music CD of some of the songs, and two articles about the
project of making the CD.

BIOGRAPHY
Photographer Lotte Jacobi was born in Thorn, West Prussia in 1896.
From a family of photographers, she had a studio in Berlin before fleeing
Nazi Germany in 1935. In the United States she worked in New York City,
and Deering, New Hampshire. Jacobi's portrait subjects have included
many well-known men and women in Europe and the U.S. For additional
biographical information, see Lotte Jacobi, edited by Kelly Wise (Danbury,
N.H.: Addison House, 1978).
SCOPE AND CONTENT
This collection consists of 35 black and white portraits, most of well- known
American and European men and women, taken in Berlin and the U.S. Jacobi signed
some of the photos and etched her signature into the negatives of others. All
of the photographs are matted and some are framed. Few of the photos have more
than the subject's name and Jacobi's name and address (which may help researchers
date the prints) on the back. Dates and other information were added to the photo
list by the processor, based on information in Lotte Jacobi.

PROVENANCE
This print collection was given to the University of Massachusetts at
Boston by Ronald E. Sherman of Brookline, Mass., on July 7, 1982.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
This collection of 80 prints includes silkscreens (some on acetate),
etchings (some and aquatint), photosilkscreens, linocuts, posters, and a
color lithograph and a woodcut. Most are unframed. All are by 20th
century artists (produced between 1965 and 1975). There are women
artists, as well as men. Many of the artists are Canadian, others are from
the U.S., Israel, Japan, Germany, Venezuela, Italy, and England.
